Build a CentOS cloud server on DigitalOcean

Hello everyone, today I am going to show you how to build a low cost private cloud server based on CentOS 7 on DigitalOcean. I choose the cheapest droplets (instance) available on DigitalOcean. DigitalOcean offers a great cloud services with so many options available.

First of all, you will need to create a new DigitalOcean account to get started. You can create your own account using this referral link. Once created, login to DigitalOcean and we can start create our first Droplet.

Step 1. Create a new Droplet

If you are new to DigitalOcean, watch the following animated gif in order to create Droplet on DigitalOcean. You can freely choose the right Droplet size for you. On this example, I choose the smallest one.

Tips:

Choose the closest data center to your area. The closer the data center with your location, you will get better speed to access it. At this point, a new droplet is created.

Step 2. Access the console

After the new droplet is created, you will received an email containing the detailed information about how to access the console, username and root password to access it. I use Termius Google Chrome SSH Client to access my new server.

access the droplet via ssh.gif

You will be asked to change the default root password on the first login. Now, you can start manage your new server at DigitalOcean.
