MATE Desktop is a nice desktop manager that has been used by Linux Mint. This MATE Desktop features an easier way to access applications, documents and has a sleek design. For you who does not like Unity or GNOME 3 looks, you can try this MATE. This tutorial is going to show you how to install MATE Desktop on Debian 7, Debian 7.5.
To install MATE on Debian, we need to add the repository first. Open /etc/apt/source.list file with your favorite text editor as root.
nano /etc/apt/source.list
Now add the following line into it
deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/debian wheezy main
Add the repository key to the system
wget http://mirror1.mate-desktop.org/debian/mate-archive-keyring.gpg
apt-key add mate-archive-keyring.gpg
apt-get –yes –quiet –allow-unauthenticated install mate-archive-keyring
Update Debian
apt-get update
Now install MATE desktop with more extras
apt-get install mate-desktop-environment-extra
Done.

This line of code did nothing except generate errors.
apt-get –yes –quiet –allow-unauthenticated install mate-archive-keyring
So I just skipped it altogether and the install still worked.
I just installed Debian 7.5
