FreeNAS 9.3 installation tutorial

FreeNAS 9.3 comes with many interesting features. If you are new to FreeNAS, you may want to have a look at what FreeNAS can do for you and your company or organization in term of server usage. FreeNAS is the perfect Linux distribution for your network. This tutorial will show you how to install the latest FreeNAS 9.3 to a PC or virtual machine. I am using VirtualBox on a Windows host to install this FreeNAS 9.3.

Steps to install FreeNAS 9.3

First, you may want to download the FreeNAS 9.3 ISO. Burn it to a CD or Live USB and then boot your computer or server with the ISO. On the first screen, select install/upgrade.

Next, select your disk where you want to install FreeNAS 9.3 system.

Press Enter to continue to the next page. Please be sure to select the correct disk. You will be asked to confirm your disk selection.

Now we need to create root password for the FreeNAS server.

Now the installation will take place. Please note that the disk you select on the previous step will be overwritten. Make sure you have backed up the disk otherwise you lost your data permanently. Once the installation completed, you will see the following message on your screen.

Reboot your computer or server to the newly installed FreeNAS 9.3. Upon reboot your will see a listed menu which you can use to configure your FreeNAS 9.3 Server. You can also find how to access FreeNAS web dashboard from this page.

Now open your web browser and type http://192.168.3.111. Change the IP address with your FreeNAS server IP address.
