How to install and configure OwnCloud on Xubuntu 14.04

OwnCloud is a free and open source cloud storage system where you can build your own cloud storage. It supports multiple users and can be accessed using OwnCloud client application. This tutorial is going to show you How to install and configure OwnCloud on Xubuntu 14.04. There is an easier way to install OwnCloud on Ubuntu based Linux including Xubuntu.

How to install and configure OwnCloud on Xubuntu 14.04

Open Terminal and type the following commands

The command above will download and install Owncloud to the directory: /var/www/owncloud. But, Xubuntu 14.04 uses this directory for the www root directory: /var/www/html. So we need to adjust it.

Now, we need to enable the https on the server

[/codesyntax]

At this point, Owncloud is installed and can be accessed using Firefox or other web browser by typing: http://localhost/owncloud.

After download, make it executable and run it.

chmod +x owncloud-install-xubuntu.sh
./owncloud-install-xubuntu.sh

Wait until the process is finished. Please note that I haven’t tested the script on other Linux distro. But, it should works on Xubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 as well.
