How to install FileZilla 3.9.0.6 on OpenSUSE 13.2

FileZilla is a handy, graphical FTP Client available for Windows and Linux. The new version of FileZilla 3.9.0.6 is now available for download for Linux distribution. On this tutorial, I will show you how to install FileZilla 3.9.0.6 on OpenSUSE 13.2. If you are installing FileZilla using “zypper” command, you will get FileZilla version 3.8.1-2 instead of version 3.9.0.2. So we need to install this FileZilla 3.9.0.2 manually.

Steps to install FileZilla 3.9.0.6 on OpenSUSE 13.2

A. Download package

Use the following command to download FileZilla 3.9.0.2 package for Linux

64 bit system:

[codesyntax lang=”bash”]

[/codesyntax]

32 bit system:

[codesyntax lang=”bash”]

[/codesyntax]

B. Extract package

tar -xjvf FileZilla_3.9.0.6_x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.bz2

or

tar -xjvf FileZilla_3.9.0.6_i586-linux-gnu.tar.bz2

C. Move FileZilla directory to /opt and create symlinks

su
mv FileZilla3 /opt/FileZilla3
ln -sf /opt/FileZilla3/bin/filezilla /usr/bin/filezilla

Now you can run FileZilla using this command on Terminal

filezilla

Done.
