This tutorial is going to show you how to install Numix Theme and icons on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. As you know, Numix theme is a beautiful theme for Linux. It has a flat and simple theme. The steps to install Numix theme and icons on Ubuntu 14.04 is exactly the same with Ubuntu 13.10.
Use these commands to install Numix theme and icons on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:numix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install numix-gtk-theme numix-icon-theme-circle
sudo apt-get install numix-wallpaper-notd
Next, we need to install unity-tweak-tool
sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool
Next, open Unity Tweak Tool and click Theme
Now select Numix from theme list
Switch to Icons tab to change the Numix icon circle.
Here is the final result

Thanks for the tutorial. I am on ubuntu 14.10. Can you please tell me how did you add the dock in the bottom of the screen. My result is exactly the same of yours except the DOCK. Can I change the folders icon also in the desktop? If yes, kindly elaborate how?
One last thing. Can I add the cinnamon desktop in Ubuntu 14.10? The below tutorial is for 14.04 version.

Cinnamon should works on Ubuntu 14.10 as well. But personally I haven’t tried it yet. Will post another tutorial on how to install Cinnamon on Ubuntu 14.10 next time.
Thank you for your response. I have noticed a strange thing. The network manager is not working after installing cinnamon in ubuntu 14.10 desktop. Not allowing me to create or manage wired/ wireless network connections, the options are greyed out. Strange!
Any idea how to fix this?

But I’ve got a strange issue – when changing the Icons via Unity tweak, my folder-icons disappear. Just standard file-icons instead, like when it’s an unknown filetype. Same with all the other themes coming with unity tweak tool…
