How to install Nvidia 343.22 driver on Ubuntu 14.04, Xubuntu 14.04

The new version of nVidia driver 343.22 for Linux system is now released. This new nVidia driver comes with many improvements and many new hardware supports. This tutorial is going to show you how to install NVIDIA drver 343.22 on Ubuntu 14.04 system. If you are running other Ubuntu 14.04 derivatives, you can also follow the steps explained on this tutorial. Supported distros such as : PinguyOS 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, Deepin 2014, Elementary OS Freya, Elementary OS Luna, Zorin OS 9 and other Ubuntu 14.04 flavors such as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME etc.

Steps to install NVIDIA 343.22 driver on Ubuntu 14.04

A. Download the package

For 32 bit system:

For 64 bit system

B. Remove the older driver

We need to remove the previous driver version installed on your system. Do this command to remove older driver

Restart Ubuntu after the command.

C. Login to command console

We need to login to Ubuntu command console (No GUI). You can do this by pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 (or F2) to login to command console with your user and password.

D. Stop the graphic session

sudo service lightdm stop

Change lightdm with gdm or mdm based on your Linux distribution. For Ubuntu GNOME, you must change lightdm with gdm.

E. Install the driver

chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-343.22.run
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-343.22.run

or

chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-343.22.run
sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-343.22.run

Next, follow on screen installation wizard. When finished, simply reboot your system and you are done.
