On this tutorial I am going to show you how to install and configure VMware Player 4.0 on Zorin OS 9. VMware Player is a free solution for you to run multiple virtual machine on your Linux host. First, you may download the latest VMware Player 4.0 for Linux System.

You will have a file called similar to this one:

VMware-Player-4.0.6-1035888.x86_64.bundle

Before we install the package, we need to prepare Zorin to have any required packages. Do the following commands on Terminal

[codesyntax lang=”bash”]

[/codesyntax]

Now install VMware Player package using command

[codesyntax lang=”bash”]

[/codesyntax]

The installation will start immediately. You will need to answer some question during installation.

vmware player

Now run VMware Player and it will ask for your Kernel Headers.

VMware Kernel Module Updater_005

Press Install to start the installation. Wait until it completed and enjoy VMware Player on Zorin OS 9.

Very nice explanation, although it doesnt works for me, when trying to do it with Zorin 10 and VMwareWorkStation 7 or VMwarePlayer 7. On the last step, when asking about headers, dunno why it doesnt work, I’ve tried several locations and the linux-headers are installed. Always same error: “C header files matching your running kernel were not found. Refer to your distribution’s documentation for installation instructions.”

I’ve followed these instructions and others…
But on the terrible last step (where it is not easy to read the dir location on the pic), got problem with the location of the kernel-headers… I’ve tried lot of different locations, but always same error:
“C header files matching your running kernel were not found. Refer to your distribution’s documentation for installation instructions.”

    Thanks from Spain. Merry Christmas!
