Short tutorial how to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr

DigiKam is a rich features photo management application for Linux. Read more about DigiKam. The new version of DigiKam 4.3.0 is now released with many interesting features and updates. This short tutorial will show you how to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr. Off course another Ubuntu 14.04 flavor and derivatives also can install DigiKam 4.3.0 using this way.

Installing DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 made easier because there is a PPA repository for DigiKam 4.3.0. We do not have to compile DigiKam 4.3.0 from the source file. Simply add the PPA and install it on Kubuntu14.04. DigiKam 4.3.0 also can be installed on other Ubuntu based Linux such as Elementary OS Freya, Linux Lite 2.0, PinguyOS 14.04, Zorin OS 9, Deepin 2014 as well. But, I cannot install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.10 with KDE 5.10 Frameworks. 

New features on DigiKam 4.3.0

  • New option to display all non geo-located images from collections.
  • New notification event when kio-slave cannot be started. OSX event notifier is now used to dispatch notifications under Mac.
  • New action to exclude items without rating with items filter.

Steps to install DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 and all derivatives

For KDE 4.13 (Default KDE on Kubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr)

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/extra
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install digikam

For KDE 4.14

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install digikam

Now you can enjoy DigiKam 4.3.0 on Kubuntu 14.04 desktop.
