I have installed VirtualBox and VMware Workstation on the same host, Windows 8. I was having problem on my VMware guest machines. Basically, the guest machine can be installed without any problem but the network interface. When I am using Bridge setting for the network, the Guest machine cannot get IP address from the DHCP server. The virtual machines installed on Virtualbox can get the IP address from the DHCP server without problems.
Till now I am not sure how this can happened to all my VMware guest machine. I’ve tried to enable the VMware bridge protocols on each virtual network interfaces on the host but no luck. Finally, after I repair the installation this problem was fixed. I use the original VMware Workstation installer and choose the Repair option. Now all my VMware guest machines can get the IP address without any problems.
So, if you are having the same problem like me you may try to repair the VMware installation. Use the original installation file and select Repair. Wait until the process finished and your problem should be fixed.
