If you install the latest Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, you will have a program called Remmina. Remmina is a simple, handy remote desktop client that is very helpful to connect to remote computer. Remmina supports various remote desktop protocols such as Windows RDP, SFTP, VNC and some more. You can also install additional protocol to Remmina.
To connect to Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) using Remmina, you can follow these steps below. Before we attempt to connect to remote Windows, make sure the Remote access is enabled on the Windows host. Otherwise, it will be impossible to connect. After the remote access is enabled, we can start configuring Remmina.
First, Open Remmina from Dash menu
Now click New to create a new connection
On the new Connection details, enter the name of the new connection. It is important to give a unique name for each connections. Enter the server address (IP address), user name and password. Click Save to save the new connection.
