How to install Firefox 29.0.1 on Elementary OS Luna

The most recent stable version of Mozilla Firefox 29.0.1 is now available for download. This tutorial is going to show you how to install Firefox 29.0.1 on Elementary OS Luna. Mozilla Firefox 29 features new Australis menu which is easier and pretty cool. Off course there are many updates and improvements inside.

How to install Firefox 29.0.1 on Elementary OS Luna:

Download the binary file of Firefox 29.0.1 for Linux:

32 bit

wget https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/29.0.1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-29.0.1.tar.bz2

64 bit

wget https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/29.0.1/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-29.0.1.tar.bz2

Now extract the file

32 bit

tar -xjvf firefox-29.0.1.tar.bz2

64 bit

tar -xjvf firefox-29.0.1.tar.bz2

The command above will produce a new folder called firefox. Now we need to modify the symbolic link

sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox-29
sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox-old
sudo ln -s /opt/firefox-29/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Now everytime you start the Firefox, it will uses the new Firefox 29.0.1
