By default, when we attempting to execute apt-get install mysql-server on Debian 8.5, we will have MySQL Server installed. But, actually I want to install MariaDb instead of MySQL server on my Debian. We cannot install MariaDb Server using apt-get install mariadb-server or such. We need to first add the MariaDb repository to Debian 8 Jessie.
Add MariaDb Repository to Debian 8 Jessie
Open Terminal or connect via SSH if you connect to Debian remotely and execute these commands in sequential
apt-get install software-properties-common apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 0xcbcb082a1bb943db add-apt-repository 'deb [arch=amd64,i386] http://mariadb.biz.net.id/repo/10.1/debian jessie main'
Please note that those command must be executed as root.
Now update your system and install MariaDb
apt-get update apt-get install mariadb-server
Now your MariaDb Server should be ready in a moment. For more information, please visit the official website for MariaDb.
