Fedora Tutorial – This tutorial will guide you to install Owncloud 10 on Fedora 26. As you know the new Owncloud 10 is now available for download. Owncloud is a great online file storage and sharing services like Dropbox. With Owncloud, we have full control of our online storage. Fedora 26 Server is a great choice to power up this Owncloud 10.
- LAMP Server must be installed
- Good internet connection
- root access
Steps to install Owncloud 10 on Fedora 26
Step 1. Install LAMP Server
In order to operational, Owncloud require a working web server. LAMP Server is a great choice. Please read our previous tutorial to install LAMP Server on Fedora 26. But, we need to install some additional modules. Use the following command:
dnf install php-mcrypt php-curl php-gd php-xml php-dom php-mbstring php-zip systemctl reload httpd
Step 2. Download Owncloud
Check the official Owncloud at Owncloud.org. Or, you can use the following command to download Owncloud.
Now extract the package
tar -xvf owncloud-10.0.2.tar.bz2
Change the permission
chown -R apache:apache owncloud chmod 755 owncloud
Step 3. Create new MySQL Database and User
We need to login to MySQL console and create a new database and user for owncloud. See my example below
[root@fedora tmp]# mysql -u root -p Enter password: Welcome to the MariaDB monitor. Commands end with ; or \g. Your MariaDB connection id is 13 Server version: 10.1.25-MariaDB MariaDB Server Copyright (c) 2000, 2017, Oracle, MariaDB Corporation Ab and others. Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the current input statement. MariaDB [(none)]> create database owncloud; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) MariaDB [(none)]> create user owncloud@localhost identified by '12345'; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) MariaDB [(none)]> grant all privileges on owncloud.* to owncloud@localhost identified by '12345'; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) MariaDB [(none)]> flush privileges; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) MariaDB [(none)]> exit; Bye
Step 4. Move Owncloud directory
Now we need to move owncloud directory to web server root
mv owncloud /var/www/html/
Step 5. Configure Owncloud via web browser
Now open a web browser from other computer and type the server IP address with the following format:
Create a new admin user and also enter the MySQL database and user we created earlier.
