This tutorial is going to show you how to install Subsonic 5.0 on Xubuntu 14.10 which also compatible with Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn.
Subsonic is designed to handle very large music collections (hundreds of gigabytes). Although optimized for MP3 streaming, it works for any audio or video format that can stream over HTTP, for instance AAC and OGG. By using transcoder plug-ins, Subsonic supports on-the-fly conversion and streaming of virtually any audio format, including WMA, FLAC, APE, Musepack, WavPack and Shorten.
Steps to install Subsonic 5.0
A. Install Java on Ubuntu
Before we can install Subsonic, we need to install Java on our Linux system. Use the following command to install Java
sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre
Or, you can follow this tutorial to install Oracle Java on Ubuntu system.
B. Download Subsonic DEB package
wget http://softlayer-sng.dl.sourceforge.net/project/subsonic/subsonic/5.0/subsonic-5.0.deb
C. Install the package
sudo dpkg -i subsonic-5.0.deb
After installing, open the Subsonic web administration page at: http://localhost:4040 using your browser. First, login using username and password “admin”.
Then you can start using Subsonic
