I am currently testing the new ClearOS 7.1 system on my network. ClearOS is a rich features server appliance based on CentOS. Its good to have ClearOS on my network. I don’t have to do many things to get several server features online on my network. One that I want to discuss here is the Active Directory feature or Domain Controller.
Here I want to show you how to join a Windows 10 PC to an existing ClearOS Domain Controller. First to remember is that the ClearOS Server must be set to Primary Domain Controller. You must have Windows Networking (Samba) module installed and configured properly on ClearOS Server.
As you can see, above is the screenshot of my ClearOS Domain Controller. GAMBLISFX is the Domain name for the PDC. ClearOS uses winadmin as the Administrator user to join computers to the Domain Controller. At this point, I assume your Primary Domain Controller is up and running. Now we can switch to Windows 10.
In Windows 10, Open Explorer and right click This PC and select Properties. You will have the following window opened in Windows 10.
Now click Advanced System Settings
Click Computer Name tab and click Change. On the Computer Name/Domain Changes, enter your Domain. On this example my domain is GAMBLISFX. Click OK and then enter administrator (winadmin) and the password.
Reboot Windows 10 to complete this process.
