This tutorial is going to show you how to install Onlyoffice Desktop on Ubuntu 16.04. Onlyoffice is a good alternative to Microsoft Office. It does supports Microsoft Office file formats, collaboration support and many other benefits. Also, Onlyoffice comes with a pretty nice user interface.
Steps to install Onlyoffice desktop on Ubuntu 16.04
Step 1. Download the Onlyoffice GUI package
Actually there are several binary formats that designed for Debian based Linux and RPM based Linux. But here, I use the general GUI package which supports almost any Linux distribution.
Please note that this package supports 64 bit architecture only.
Step 2. Make it executable
After download, you will have a file called onlyoffice-desktopeditors-installer-x64. Before install it, we need to make it executable. Use the following command on Terminal
chmod +x onlyoffice-desktopeditors-installer-x64
Step 3. Install Onlyoffice
The installation wizard then will open up. I summarized the Onlyoffice installation steps in picture series below.
The install wizard is pretty straight forward. Once completed, you can start using Onlyoffice from Ubuntu. For more information, please visit the official website of Onlyoffice.
