Ubuntu Tutorial-Install Onlyoffice Community Server on Ubuntu 16.04

OnlyOffice Community Server is a powerful office collaboration software which available for free. This tutorial will show you how to install OnlyOffice Community Server on Ubuntu 16.04. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 Server installed on Proxmox VE with Onlyoffice recommended hardware configuration. There are several ways to install Onlyoffice Community Server on our own server. Here I am using Docker to install OnlyOffice. Its pretty easy and straight forward.

  • CPU: dual-core 2 GHz or better
  • RAM: 6 GB or more
  • HDD at least 40 GB of free space
  • Additional Requirements: at least 6 GB of swap
  • OS: amd64 Linux distribution with kernel version 3.10 or later
  • Additional Requirements:
    Docker: version 1.10 or later

Install OnlyOffice Community Server using Docker

Step 1. Install Docker

Install Onlyoffice Community Edition via Docker could be the easiest way compared to other ways. But first, make sure Docker is installed on Ubuntu 16.04. You can read my previous tutorial to install Docker on Ubuntu 16.04 Server.

Step 2. Download installation script

Log in to Ubuntu Server and download the Onlyoffice installation script with this command:

Step 3. Install Onlyoffice Community Edition with all features installed (including Mail Server)

Still in Terminal, now install the script with the following command. Change yourdomain.com with your own domain name.

Install OnlyOffice Community without Mail Server

In case you don’t have or don’t want install the Mail Server, you can use the following command instead.

Wait until the installation process completed. When done, open your web browser from other computer to access the newly installed Onlyoffice. Type the Server IP address on the web browser. On the first run, Onlyoffice will perform initial configuration that will take some times.

To start using it, you can use your Web browser and type the Server IP address. Or, you can connect using Onlyoffice Desktop Editor as well. If your server has public IP address, you can access it from anywhere via internet connection.
