Elementary OS 5.0 code name Juno comes with Epiphany as the default web browser. It’s a great, lightweight and simple web browser. But for some reasons, I need Google Chrome to replace Epiphany. Well, it’s not just a preference matter. Google Chrome has more features than Epiphany. I have been using Sync feature in Google Chrome for some times and I love the feature that I cannot use it in Epiphany. I can import the bookmarks but it take a lot of steps.
Steps to Install Google Chrome on Elementary OS Juno
Step 1. Update System
It is recommended to update your system prior to the installation. You can use the graphical system update feature on EOS, or you can also execute the following command:
sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade
Step 2. Download Google Chrome package
Now, download the DEB package from this link. You should now have a new file: google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb.
Step 3. Install the DEB package
There is no associated application to open the DEB file. So, I would use the command line to install it.
sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb
Likely, you will end up with the following error on the first attempt
elementary@elementary:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb Selecting previously unselected package google-chrome-stable. (Reading database ... 146647 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to unpack google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb ... We can easily fix this with the following command
sudo apt-get -f install
In few moments, Google Chrome should be ready for use.
