How to Install Oracle Java 8 on Ubuntu 18.10

Hello everyone, welcome to Ubuntu Tutorial. Today, I am going to show you how to install Oracle Java 8 (JRE) on Ubuntu 18.10. By default, Ubuntu 18.10 does not shipped with any version of Java. You can check it by using this command below.

java -version

In this case you will get an error message showing that the Java software is not installed. So, let’s install Oracle Java.

Open Terminal and then copy and paste this line. This command will add the PPA repository to Ubuntu 18.10. Thanks to WebUpd Team who provides this PPA.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

Now let’s update Ubuntu

sudo apt update

Finally, install Oracle Java 8

sudo apt install oracle-java8-installer

You will need to accept the EULA in order to install Oracle Java. Wait until the installation process completes. Now, check the Java version once again

java -version

Output:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ java -version
java version "1.8.0_191"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_191-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.191-b12, mixed mode

That’s it. Thanks for reading this short tutorial. I hope you enjoy it and see you.
