QGIS Tutorial for Beginner – Hello everyone, today I am going to show you how to open or import DXF file to Quantum GIS (QGIS). I am using QGIS version 2.18.10 installed on Windows 10. This tutorial also applicable to QGIS Linux version. You may want to see how to install QGIS on Ubuntu 16.04 or Ubuntu 17.04.
Steps to import DXF on QGIS
Step 1. Prepare the DXF file
Make sure you have prepare the DXF file in place. DXF is a native AutoCAD file format and should be easily to be imported to such GIS applications.
Step 2. Open QGIS
Step 3. Go to Layer | Add Layer | Add Vector Layer
Make sure you select File on the Source Type and then press Browse on the Dataset. Look for the DXF file you have. Now it should looks like this below.
Press OK and then select the projection of the file.
Press OK and now the layer should be displayed on QGIS desktop.
