Many people dont like the Unity desktop on Ubuntu 14.04 or Ubuntu 14.10. Unity requires a good hardware or graphic card to run smoothly. If you own an old laptop or low performance computers, you can try to install LXQt on your Ubuntu. LXQt is a lightweight desktop environment. The new LXQt 0.9 is now out which brings many new features and improvements. Also, you can find some new LXQt themes as well.

This tutorial is going to show you how to install LXQt 0.9 on Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10. Since its available through PPA repository, installing LXQt 0.9 on Ubuntu is pretty easy.

Steps to install LXQt 0.9 on Ubuntu

A. Add the PPA Repository

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lubuntu-dev/lubuntu-daily

B. Update local repository index

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

C. Install LXQt

sudo apt-get install lxqt-metapackage lxqt-panel openbox

Once finished, you can start using your new LXQt on Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10. Enjoy.
